You’ve probably heard talk of spiritual awakenings and how they can lead to more enlightened (dare we say, “woke”) people. But what does a spiritual awakening really mean, and what does it actually entail? How to stay spiritually awake? What causes spiritual awakening? What are the benefits of spiritual awakening?

What is spiritual awakening?
From an evolutionary perspective, it is probably safe to assume that all of our ancestors were spiritual beings. Because of our inherent connection to nature, humanity has always been compelled to reconnect with our spiritual nature, and at least outwardly, that has always included animals as well as plants and the natural world.
As individuals, our spiritual potential is shaped by our religious or spiritual beliefs, but, according to author Michael Bailas, spiritual awakening is “the direct access to your innate power, which emerges when you connect with the divine force within yourself.”
What is spiritual awakening all about?
Allowing for an assessment of one’s potential, a person can find that awakening within themselves to their inner spirituality—that is, to their own inner wisdom.
What are the benefits of spiritual awakening?
When we talk about spiritual awakenings, the conversation focuses on the benefits of such awakening, and there are many.
The most significant benefit is that it allows people to break free from what they have come to believe. The things they believe are what define their identity and how they function within the world.
Spiritual awakening causes a person to view themselves from an outsider’s perspective and thus may lead them to conclude that certain beliefs are misguided, invalid or even false.
Another benefit of spiritual awakening is that it allows a person to live in a way that is more in harmony with the world. One can truly be present at the moment.
When you’re spiritually enlightened –
- You have a feeling of oneness or being one with all.
- You feel a heightened state of self-awareness and consciousness.
- You Live a more meaningful life.
- You feel more peaceful and calm than ever before.
- Feelings of purity instil within you.
- You have more empathy and compassion for people.
- You make a better spiritual connection.
- There’s No room for negative feelings.
- You may also feel the Enhanced psychic abilities.
How to stay spiritually awake
There are many different ways to awaken your own spiritual potential.
You could check out the –
- A Zen monastery or centre At the monastery, explore your spiritual core. You should be simply asking yourself questions about what kind of person you are and what your values are.
Ask yourself: Who am I? What is my life’s purpose? What do I value most? Asking such questions will allow you to understand your mind deeply and you will start noticing and observing things about yourself that will help you achieve greater things.
Asking deeper questions to yourself opens up your mind on a subconscious level.
- A dream journal
Let your thoughts out but in your dream journal. Spending a day full of people and a lot of thoughts can confuse your mind and you may not be able to make sense of your thoughts and feelings. Writing them down on paper and letting them go helps you think clearer and move forward.

The point is that spirituality doesn’t have to be a complicated or difficult process; instead, it can simply be an intimate, natural part of everyday life. If you feel disconnected from your spiritual side, that’s okay! It’s completely normal to experience spiritual shifts and to want to get closer to the light.
